Shanty the Blacksmith

“I should make a better blacksmith in a week,” declares Mr. Dymock—a laird who has never yet finished what he starts.

In the wild border country between England and Scotland, the once-proud Dymock family is running short of money and living in a crumbling tower. Mr. Dymock has grand plans to restore the estate and cultivate its neglected lands, but first he must perfect his wonderful new plough. He is certain he knows better than old Shanty, the worthy, God-fearing blacksmith whose help he needs; his aunt, Mrs. Margaret, fears the laird is about to make a fool of himself at the forge. Can Shanty’s steady skill succeed where Mr. Dymock’s restless ingenuity may fail? What will the new plough set in motion?
