In 1999 and 2001, two Sherlock Holmes novels were quietly published.  They featured a Sherlock so close to Conan Doyle’s original that reviewers were amazed.  At the same time they injected emotions and conflict into the iconic character that were later echoed in TV series like Sherlock and Elementary.
