In Sojourner by Marguerite Antonio, an intergalactic council is dispatched to Earth on an important mission to better the lives of those within it. Will they be successful in their mission?
Sojourner by Marguerite Antonio is an eco-conscious science fiction story featuring intergalactic beings, talking dolphins and more. The book is inspired by the author’s love for sea creatures, especially dolphins and others that are endangered due to pollution.
Although a traditional science fiction, some qualities make this book unique:
The author blends fictional elements such as space travel portals with real life elements such as, nature, humans, Canadian societal norms, thus making the book relatable to all kinds of readers, even those who are not typically sci fi fans
As the story combines eco consciousness with entertainment, it takes readers to an exciting fictional world whilst also keeping them grounded in reality and conscious of its challenges.
This book is especially relevant in today’s society where there’s a lot of push for awareness about environmental pollution and its consequences on all creatures that inhabit Earth
Synopsis of Sojourner by Marguerite Antonio:
“Etroygylus is honoured, and somewhat nervous, to be the youngest captain of the four landing parties that the Intergalactic Council dispatched to planet Earth.
Their mission is to surreptitiously study and report on the severity of pollution on the planet, and to assess the degree to which humans are addressing the problem.
Although he has been well trained, and well versed in the history of Earth’s people, he can only hope that his true identity remains hidden behind his alias, “Troy”, and that he can safely pilot the landing craft, and lead his crew to successfully complete their mission.
He knows they will face challenges and danger, and could meet with hostility and suspicion, but he trusts their sojourn on planet Earth will be informative and hopefully rewarding.”
