In 1914, Sir Ernest Shackleton sets out from South Georgia to reach the Antarctic coast and establish a base for the planned crossing of the continent. But the whaling captains have warned him: the pack may be heavy, safe winter quarters hard to find, and every plan depends on getting ashore. As ice gathers in the ship’s path, the crew sails toward a frozen sea whose currents can grind floes together with terrible force. Can the Endurance find a way through?
