Street Lore is a book based on children games that were played in the streets of New York around the 50s.

During this period the children didnt have the games like kids have today nor did they have the money.
So, the children of this time would create their own toys from what they had lying around in the streets. An example would be the wooden boxes from the greengrocers on every corner. This would be their main source of building material.
In addition to their homemade toys they had games. The game changed with the seasons and the aging process. Some were as traditional as tag, hide and seek, and marbles, while others were local and spontaneous:
hot beans and butter, Highest to the moon/lowest to the earth.
The neighborhood was poor and the environment was rough but the kids were to busy playing to have ever noticed.
This book is based on the belief that these memories are part of a Iore that should not be lost. It is a part of American history; a small part granted, but enough to stimulate a wider perception of an era that its own way of doing things it did.
