With her familiar gone, married to the same man that ordered her father's death, in love with someone who is a captive of the elves in Dourwood, haunted by the threat of constant demise, and forced to feed Queen Farretta her own magic to empower the shapeshifter to rise again—Celia is sure things couldn't get any worse.

She's wrong. Bryn asked her to befriend the king, convinced that Dhulran is a victim, too, and Celia must balance her roles as new queen and barely-trained witch carefully, or she will lose even more than she already has: her mind.
