 John Bateson, a Maister Clothier, must take an apprentice and thus does Phillip Abbey of Long Marston come to live in Wortley, in the town of  Leeds, in 1799. 

    But can Phillip resist the temptations of wealth, fashion and lust in Hull?

    Can he ever win the hand of a promised bride or will he be ruined by careless dalliance?

   The continuing story of the Bateson family and other forgotten histories.

     Set in Leeds in the Napoleonic Wars, this story takes place among the hand  loom weavers  of Wortley Township where the Bateson family and their associates have ventured to found their steam powered mills.
