The Collected Stories

Ethel M. Dell (1881–1939) was a British novelist best known for her romantic fiction, which gained immense popularity during the early 20th century. Born in Streatham, London, Dell began writing stories at a young age, inspired by her vivid imagination and a penchant for crafting emotional, dramatic narratives. Her novels, often set in exotic locales and featuring themes of love, passion, and sacrifice, resonated with a wide readership. Despite critical dismissal of her work as overly sentimental, her books, including The Way of an Eagle and The Knave of Diamonds, sold millions of copies. Dell was a private individual who shunned public attention, dedicating her life to her craft and her family.
