The Devil's Dictionary

In almost every way controversial for its time, and First published as The Cynic's Word Book in 1906, The Devil’s Dictionary by Ambrose Bierce is a satire that sheds light on the double-speak of politics, and even every-day communication with others. As its original title would indicate, this book takes a cynical—though humorous—view of how we as people speak with one another. He re-writes the definitions of words such as “History”, or “Youth” and gives you what he sees to be the true definition. His cynicism is almost glorious and is guaranteed to have even the most cheerful of us chuckling (or scoffing) in agreement.
