The case of a missing saxophone spirals into a conspiratorial rabbit hole in the third Harry Ingram book.
Los Angeles, 1968. Photojournalist and freelance PI Harry Ingram is on the scene at the East Los Angeles Walkouts, a massive student protest organized by the Brown Berets. There, Ingram is approached by schoolteacher Sabrina Elving to track down a missing saxophone. The valuable instrument was allegedly stolen by her ex-boyfriend.
What at first seems like an easy assignment is exactly that—too simple. As he digs further into the case, delving deeper into the city’s vibrant nightclub scene, Ingram realizes that Sabrina isn’t telling the whole truth. Meanwhile, Ingram is approached by the Brown Berets when one of their own, Nestor Alejandros, goes into hiding after being falsely accused of assaulting police officers at the protest. Ingram’s girlfriend Anita Claire also needs his help staking out a local politician in the hopes of digging up dirt to help her boss win the mayoral election.
As Ingram is pulled into a whirlpool of deceit, theft, and conspiracies, he will face difficult moral questions that push his beliefs to the brink. What actions are justified in the name of doing what’s right, and how far will he go for the cause?
