World-renown architect Frank Lloyd Wright was also a major player is the early twentieth century world of Japanese woodblock prints. A connoisseur, collector, and dealer, thousands of fine prints passed through his hands to the most important collections in the United States. Originally attracted to the prints for their aesthetic appeal, Wright stayed with them for their unfailing inspiration to his own creative endeavors. Wright wrote this essay, The Japanese Print: An Interpretation, in 1912, a subjective treatise on and tribute to the beauty of this art form. It is a close look at the practical and aesthetic lessons of the print and is a testament to the pleasure and beauty they offer through study.

Originally published without illustrations by Ralph Fletcher Seymour in Chicago.
