The Magarisse

THE MAGARISSE opens in a kingdom engulfed by a war brought on when Duke Sharadar invaded peaceful lands. The Magarisse, a brotherhood of magicians and generals, fought to defeat the power-hungry duke. The leader of the Magarisse is dead. His son Orren has gone in search of help from someone he left behind long ago... Meanwhile, a man thought to be safely imprisoned by powerful spirits has returned. The mans motives, hidden beneath a mask of strange behavior and magical insight, may prove even more dangerous than Sharadars. On a small island many miles from the battlefield, a sailor named Amarull is visited by a stranger who offers an opportunity that could turn the tide of the entire war. A source of magical energy in the world of THE MAGARISSE is being quickly drained, creating a sense of desperation and instigating a search for a new magical source. The originality of THE MAGARISSE is derived from this dark plotline mirroring our worlds unsustainable use of natural resources. The two main characters mature visibly throughout the course of the novel. However, THE MAGARISSE turns off the beaten path established by classic coming-of-age novels in the way the growth of the villain can be tracked alongside that of the heroes. The level of detail in this novel makes you feel like you are in each scene, standing alongside the characters that fight their way through the end of one war and into the beginning of another. THE MAGARISSE will engage you with adventure, humor, romance, suspense, magic, and surprises. It is the result of a three-year project by a high school student who moves the fantasy genre in a new direction by tying in a parallel storyline about current environmental issues.
