The One I Won

In 2019, at the age of 27, Shiv was delivered the news he had feared throughout my life. He was told he had cancer, Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Throughout his life he had been a hypochondriac. Always lived in the fear that his bad lifestyle choices will bear a heavy brunt on his health. And they finally did. A valiant battle against the disease, his anxiety about health and addiction ensued. A descriptive account of his experience with the perils of cancer treatment is detailed in this book. From weight and hair loss to the discomfort of the side-effects of chemotherapy and the mental challenges that came along with them, this book describes his thoughts and the lessons he learnt along the way.

After going through aggressive treatment, he went into remission and left for London in 2020 and found himself gripped in the midst of a global pandemic. Being at a high risk to a severe illness due to COVID-19, Shiv had to live under severe restrictions for large periods of time. Shiv, however, tells the story of an optimistic approach he used to fight his challenges and overcome adversity.

This is a memoir of the resilient support he received and the optimistic happiness he found in the worst of times. This is the story of his battle against cancer, anxiety and addiction. The battle he won.

About the author

Shiv Dhawan is a 28-year-old entrepreneur from New Delhi, India. After completing his Bachelors in Management from the University of Manchester and a Masters in Management of Information Systems from the London School of Economics, Shiv joined India On Track – a leading sports management agency with hopes of building the sports ecosystem in India. Born into a business family that has interests in manufacturing and export of apparels, hospitality and retail, Shiv always dreamt of building a business of his own in sports. An avid fan of football, Shiv travels up and down to follow his beloved Manchester United. In 2019, Shiv was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. After completing his treatment and entering into remission in 2020, Shiv spent time in London where he wrote this book. Shiv hopes to complete his MBA and get back to working with India On Track as well as handling his family business whilst following his passions and chasing his dreams.
