Paris in the last months of the Second Empire, seen by an English visitor, with the war coming and nobody in the salons believing it. Bulwer-Lytton died leaving it unfinished and it was published from his manuscript. This edition is bound with 56 plates of paintings by Jean Béraud, Ernest Meissonier and Henri Félix Emmanuel Philippoteaux, among others, dating from 1836 to 1909.
