About the Author
Joan E. Cass (1901 - 1994) was born the first child and eldest daughter of a Church of England clergyman. She taught her father's younger Sunday School children while she was still at school, and her godmother then paid for her to qualify as a teacher. She subsequently taught in, and went on to head, more than one nursery school, including in London during World War II. Later, she became a Lecturer in Child Development at the London Institute of Education. A prolific children’s writer, Joan wrote fourteen illustrated children’s books, including the Cass Cat Books.
