There are many reasons to pour ink on paper. Sometimes, it could be the call of a lovely morning. In my case, though, it was a rather dark night that fathered my writing ambitions—the dark night which our gay community might have to endure any time soon.

But why waste precious ink on irrelevant matters? Well, homophobia is not irrelevant, especially for those who are still languishing in chains. Furthermore, India’s minorities have never been safe from the claws of religious fundamentalists, so the gay community might well be their next soup. It is only a matter of time.

Even so, what does The Susurrus beyond the Sky have to offer? Gold and silver have I none, but such as I have give I thee: a new approach to an old problem. This is especially true today, considering the Delhi High Court has repealed Section 377. But can love be legislated by the law, or does the miracle of change always come from within? This is the basic theme that runs through my work: love of law vs law of love.

This, in short, is why I wrote this book—in order that the reader could choose and choose wisely. And if he does, I shall crown myself as the bearer of good tidings.
