For thirty-five years, Maaran has run his father's small press on a lane two streets south of the temple. He has a wife who packs his lunch in the morning, a grown daughter who tracks tigers in the Anaimalai hills, and a single locked drawer in his desk that he has not opened in living memory.

The man in the white shirt is from Bangalore. He has come to give Maaran back a name the printer has been keeping in the back of his throat for half his life. He is dying. He has come a long way for this.

Spanning thirty-five years from a fisherman's hut south of Rameswaram in 1991 to a Sunday afternoon at a green door behind the silk-weavers' lane in 2026, it tells the story of a family, a press, a sister who waited, a wife who knew, and the women across Tamil Nadu who held what the men could not say.
