When author Ruth James Krise was accepted into the nursing class at Nesbitt Memorial Hospital in Kingston, Pennsylvania, in September of 1953, she was the oldest of the lot. Her greatest hope was to simply survive and graduate.

In Through the Years, Krise narrates her story, telling how she graduated from nursing school in 1956 and began her career at one of the largest hospitals in Newark, New Jersey. In this memoir, she shares details from her personal and professional life. Krise traveled and worked in several states and in many fields. Through the Years chronicles how a young girl, looking for love and a meaningful life chose a vocation that took her to various underdeveloped countries where, with other medical volunteers, she was part of a team providing surgical care. Independent and free spirited, her career spanned fifty years and saw many changes in the medical arena.
