In a town that has known war, the invitation seems like a simple enough answer. The train is there, ready to greet them and offers with it a promise for the townspeople to forget their troubles. To them, it is a brief respite from their quiet and familiar lives at home. A trip of luxury on a train. What could be better?

To some, it promises to be an adventure and an experience they will not forget.

And to others, it will be the answer to their true heart's desires. Or their worst nightmares.

As THE EMPRESS makes its long journey, three boys hunt for adventure. A woman comes face to face with a mirrored fantasy. A soldier is haunted by his past. A young couple witnesses a strange feast. And a young girl finds joy again.
