Turning the page

Turning the page. The book as artístic territory is the new exhibition pertaining to Programa.cat, an open catalogue with a specific section on exhibitions (alongside other sections on performing arts and music) that the Catalan Ministry of Culture is providing to towns and cities to make knowledge and enjoyment of different artistic disciplines more accessible to the general public.

This project revolves around the artist’s book as a paradigm of the evolution of contemporary visual arts and focuses on the production of this type of book after the classical vanguards. It examines the most important outcomes of the use of books as groundbreaking artistic tools by classifying them into six different types: illustrated books, artist’s notebooks, artist’s books, books with more than one author, poet-artist’s books and books that push boundaries
