Vietnam War

The Vietnam War was the longest military conflict in U.S. history. American involvement in Vietnam began in 1954 and ended in 1973 where more than 58,000 Americans lost their lives and more than 304,000 were wounded. Not since the Civil War had Americans been so divided on this unpopular war. Students will learn about the background and causes of the Vietnam War, major battles like Khe Sanh and Ia Drang, how major figures like Kennedy and Johnson shaped American policies in Vietnam, and how the War affected veterans and civilians at home.
