Jack was exceptional. Out of fifty billion people on planet Earth, he was chosen as the best candidate. But best candidate for what? He would soon find out.

The people in power needed to send someone to check out nearby solar systems in an effort to find a place suitable for expansion. There were just too many Earthlings on Earth.

Was there a catch? Of course. There's always a catch. In this case, two of them. First, he wouldn't be coming back. He would live in his spaceship, he would explore one system after another, and he would do that until the day he died. Or until he just stopped. It would really be up to him.

The second catch was a little more interesting. Jack would not have the company of another human being---but he wouldn't be alone. His companion would be a gorgeous artificially-intelligent android named Brenda. Which, in itself, is no big deal. Except that she is a new model, a learning android. She would adapt to situations and gain knowledge daily. The biggest surprise for Jack---She was already programmed to be his wife. No alcohol. No shotgun. Just instantly married.

Oh---And part of her programming was to learn how to be what the (female) programmers thought was a typical wife. In other words, Jack would soon find himself alone on a small spaceship with what was fast becoming a typical relationship. Could it be love? Could Brenda be the perfect partner? Or would she just kill him with her bare, android hands and finish the mission herself?

Jack had always wanted a beautiful android to call his own. Be careful what you wish for Jack!
