Narrative of Richard Lee Mason in the Pioneer West, 1819

Book Narrative of Richard Lee Mason in the Pioneer West, 1819, not having any idea where the author's journey may have taken place. It pleased me that it was in an area different from the usual of what we call "west" in historical presentations. Mason's narration involves traveling between Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and, eventually, the wilds of Illinois. The "promised land" was a large tract of land near Alton, Illinois that was awarded to him due to his military service during the War of 1812.
