Gigi's Big Gulp

Gigi's Big Gulp teaches the /g/ sound. Have children feel their throat as they make the /g/ sound - can they feel the g's going down? Be sure to make lots of g sounds every time they are found on a page. Also draw attention to Gigi's ponytail. Sometimes Gigi makes the /j/ sound. This book teaches concepts such as the color green, counting, and body parts. Have fun at the end of the book thinking of unusual places where the g's could go - learn words such as “ankle,” “heel,” “shin,” and “backbone.” Have children add their own episodes by drawing g's going to these body parts and adding words to the page. The structure of this story is a reactive sequence every time the g goes someplace, Gigi reacts by trying to pull or chase the g's away.
