Shocking reportage about the real L'Aquila, a small town in Abruzzo that was struck by an earthquake in April 6th 2009.
The newspapers used to say stuff like “Le Figaro: Berlusconi «We have rebuilt an entire town from scratch»”. The TV showed L'Aquila as a sequence of new houses, freshly built, which resembled those American residential homes.. cozy and nice. They used to show and still show pictures of the main roads and it looked like a town that was – more or less – recovering. As time passed by, every once in a while a citizen showed up on TV claiming that L'Aquila had been abandoned... he was certainly lying. In TV you could see a “new” town. But something just didn't add up.
On July 16th 2013 I had the chance to enter the “real” L'Aquila, not the one the media make you see, not the cozy and nice place. I saw L'Aquila “behind the scenes”, behind that big stage they built with the purpose of hiding a devastated town, as well as the huge waste of money circulating in that area.
