Publisher Description
The Legends of Vilnius City is comics book created by lithuanian artist Ula Šimulynaitė. This book tells three mysterious stories that happened in Vilnius five hundred years ago.
How Wizard Tvardauskas ended up on the moon
Jonas Tvardauskas truly was a historic personality – a highly educated man, who had graduated from not one, but two universities in Germany. He was known and respected by the people of Vilnius. Yet the legend has it that in his youth Tvardauskas had sold his soul to the devil, who throughout his life helped him perform various miracles.
The Ghost of Barbora
On the 8th of May, 1551, around noon the Queen Barbora gave up the ghost in the city of Krakow. Sigismund Augustus brought her back to Vilnius and buried her in the catacombs of the Kingly Chapel (now called Valavičių). From then on, the King’s infinite sadness had seen no end.
This legend tells about the time Wizard Tvardauskas summoned Barbora’s spirit for Sigismund Augustus.
Tvardauskas’ book of spells
The legend of the famous whisperer’s, Tvardauskas’ book of spells is connected with the beautiful edifice of Vilnius University. The legend was written down by Jesuit priests, who heard it from Danielius Butvilas, also a Jesuit, who in 1663 became the headmaster of the Academy of Vilnius.
