Synopsis:

In Imperial China, being chosen to enter the palace is not a simple honor, but the beginning of a life ruled by strict protocols, ruthless hierarchies, and a constant struggle to preserve the Emperor's favor.

Han Zhen leaves her hometown with the hope of becoming one of the Emperor's concubines. Intelligent, observant, and ambitious, she knows that outside the imperial court her future would be reduced to an arranged marriage. The palace, however, offers the possibility of rising in status, earning recognition, and drawing closer to power.

The journey to the capital lasts three weeks. It crosses mountains, forests, and dangerous roads where harsh weather, wild animals, treacherous terrain, and the constant threat of bandits turn every day into a test of endurance. But when she finally reaches the imperial residence, Zhen discovers that surviving the journey was only the beginning. Inside the palace, threats do not carry visible weapons like bandits on the road. They hide behind measured smiles and whispered rumors capable of destroying a reputation—or provoking an execution by imperial order.

Han Zhen must learn to move carefully through a world where beauty offers no protection, and where every gesture, every word, and every mistake can decide who rises… and who disappears.
