Publisher Description

Sixty years ago, Britannia was the home of the largest copper mine in the British Empire. Several thousand people lived in its two main communities: the Townsite and the Beach. Although it was a scant 50 miles from Vancouver, it was accessible only by boat, as were its neighboring communities of Squamish and Woodfibre.
In the years after WW2, copper prices plummeted, and Britannnia closed. For many years, it was a ghost town, until relics of its heyday were re-assembled and formed the nucleus of the Britannia Mine Museum.
Today, it is a favored tourist stop, on the highway that leads to Squamish, and beyond, to the world class ski resort of Whistler, site of the 2010 Winter Olympics.
Before The Road Came deals with life in the isolated mining camp, during the early 1940s, seen through the eyes of a young girl.
