Publisher Description
When we hear the phrase "Intellectual Freedom r Young People," many librarians cringe, because we are only thinking of the position we may find ourselves in when we need to defend titles that some parents, schools, or communities do not want in their libraries. Titles with language, violence, drugs, or sexuality for young readers make some adults and parents uncomfortable, worrying that reading about such topics may influence their children's behavior or values for the worse. Yet, librarians also know that intellectual freedom means that young readers should be free to read what they want and need to read, with no one but a parent telling them otherwise, and librarians are the defenders of that right.
