Charlie's Order

He was sent by the Order to find her.

His dragon chose her instead.

Charlie Cox trusts facts. Numbers. Evidence. Things she can prove. Tajss may be full of deadly plants, impossible monsters, and alien dragon warriors, but even here, logic should still matter.

Then a huge Zmaj from the Order kills one of his own to protect her.

Borysk should be the enemy. He is one of the warriors sent to hunt the human women and drag them back to the Order, where the new Eye wants them used to save the Zmaj race. Charlie knows exactly how dangerous that makes him.

She also knows what she felt when he looked at her.

Borysk believed in the Order. He believed in discipline, duty, and the teachings that told him the dragon inside him could be caged. Then he sees Charlie, and every lie he has ever been taught burns away. His dragon knows the truth before his mind can accept it.

When another Order warrior reaches for her, Borysk kills him. When Charlie's protectors search the jungle, Borysk does the one thing that makes perfect sense to his dragon and absolutely no sense to Charlie.

He takes her.

Charlie should be furious. She is furious. Being carried off by a possessive alien warrior is not nearly as romantic in real life as the stories make it sound. But alone with Borysk in the jungle, she discovers the terrifying truth beneath all that stubborn, silent devotion: he is not taking her to the Order. He is done with them.

And he is willing to wait forever for her to choose him.

The scientist in Charlie wants proof. The woman in Charlie wants the warrior who feeds her, protects her, listens to her, and looks at her like she is the answer to every question he never knew how to ask.

But the Order is still hunting them. Borysk's betrayal will not stay hidden. And if Charlie cannot convince him to trust her friends, the safest place on Tajss may become another cage.
