Conspiracy on Callisto

On a rocket bound for Callisto, Peter Duane is thrown into a violent clash over a mysterious cargo, a disputed payment, and a deadly reversal of course that leaves him unconscious and amnesiac. He wakes in the ship's sick bay accused of murdering Stevens, then is seized by Governor Andrias, a ruthless power on Callisto who can halt a rocket and command armed police without challenge. As Duane is dragged into a fortress-like prison and forced to confront fragments of memory, he begins to suspect the cargo is part of a vast gun-running scheme involving thousands of electron rifles and a planned betrayal of the League. In Andrias's oppressive office, Duane uncovers the governor's secret arming of rebels, fights back, and escapes by subduing a guard and disguising himself. Racing through a corrupt world shaped by Callisto's failed history as a penal colony, he reaches the spaceport, where trust proves as dangerous as the law. A friend-captain aboard the transport knows too much, Andrias closes in, and the resulting escape aboard the commandeered Cameroon launches Duane into a desperate flight into space, with enemy patrols behind him and Andrias somehow still on board.
