Echoes of Conflict

The First World War diary kept in her late teens by Bernice Lamb brings Meg and Stephen together three-quarters of a century later and helps forge the bond of love between them. They feel that the answer to a long-buried secret lies hidden somewhere in those yellowed pages and they are determined to unlock it.

Bernie’s story reaches 1916 and her once effusive outpourings dwindle in number and in length as the war takes its tragic toll. A mere handful of pages remain to provide answers when Meg exclaims in triumph at the sight of a familiar name. The searching pair know then that they are poised to unravel the full tragic secret of the diary.
