Alice Christiana Gertrude Thompson Meynell was an English writer, editor, critic, and suffragist, now remembered mainly as a poet. She was known as the activist as suffragist in her time, particularly she was the Vice President of the League of Women Writers in 1908-1919.
Published in 1898, “London Impressions: Etchings and Pictures in Photogravure” is a volume of essays, depicting her sensory experiences of London. Together with other prose essays and poetry works, this one is remarkable for fineness of culture and peculiar restraint of style.
Meynell was widely regarded as one of the most important essayists of her day due to the remarkable quantity and quality of her essays. Well-written and intriguing, elegiac and melancholic, this volume of essays will not undoubtedly leave you indifferent.
