Max Geary is the king of Miami dog racing. Singlehandedly, he's made the sport respectable. And what has it gotten him? A track that's failing, a hotel developer pressuring him to sell, and an assistant kennel master who's drugging the dogs, running a betting scheme, and sleeping with his wife.


 


When Geary is killed in a car accident, his little black book of bribes survives. On the list is Mike Shayne. There are a lot of people in Miami salivating over the imminent demise of the private investigator, but he's not going down without a fight, even if it means taking the most powerful people in South Florida down with him . . .
