From the outside, Polly’s life looks pretty perfect—great job, adoring husband, amazing friends—but infertility, parental struggles, and a sick friend are worrying her. She shares all of it with her best girlfriends when their book club meets and they discuss everything (except the book). As a joke birthday present, she gets a DNA kit, which leads to a very surprising match and leaves her questioning everything. Estranged from her intense and revered mother, struggling to witness her father’s declining cognitive health, and having gone through multiple rounds of fertility treatment without success, Polly feels bereft. Author Anna Quindlen’s characters are always so well-developed and feel thoroughly real, down to their nuances and reactions. Her portrayals of friendship and familial bonds are incredibly heartwarming, and there are genuine laugh-out-loud moments, mostly thanks to Polly’s hilarious brother. Gently meandering and tender, More Than Enough is an ultimately uplifting story about love, loss, and relationships.
