Ramsay in 10 by Gordon Ramsay
Gordon James Ramsay was a rising soccer star until he suffered a knee injury that prematurely ended his career. Ramsay was born in Johnstone, Scotland, on November 8, 1966, and grew up in Stratford-upon-Avon, England, where his family relocated when he was five years old. After retiring from sports, he returned to school and received a degree in hotel management. Ramsay began his career as an apprentice to some of Europe's greatest chefs after completing his education.
In 1993, Ramsay became the head chef at London's newly launched Aubergine. He earned the restaurant a two-star Michelin rating over the course of three years. When Aubergine's financial viability began to deteriorate, Ramsay ventured out on his own and founded Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in 1998 in London.
Ramsay made his television debut in 1996 as a judge on BBC's competitive cooking show MasterChef. Hell's Kitchen, Kitchen Nightmares, MasterChef Junior, and Hotel Hell are among his other series. Ramsay has authored more than 20 books in addition to his work on television and in his restaurants.
