Egremont hides his true identity and social standing while he makes friends with Gerard. While visiting Gerard under a fake identity, Egremont falls in love with Sybil, his daughter, but she rejects him when his actual identity is revealed. After then, as the people's movement grows and clashes with the government, Sybil faces a number of challenging obstacles.
