The Awakening

New Orleans in the late nineteenth century: As a wife and young mother, Edna Pontellier leads a privileged yet emotionally rigid existence. During a summer holiday by the sea, a passionate desire for self-determination awakens within her. She learns to swim, paints, and falls in love. Edna begins to free herself from the constraints of society – a radical path that forces her to face an existential decision. A landmark of feminist literature.
