AUTHOR
Although there are some questions over the authorship of this work, the two most likely candidates are Edward Sellon and William Simpson Potter. Potter wrote and had two letter collections on the Prince of Wales's 1875–1876 visit to India published in secret, and Sellon wrote several sexual novels and a book on snake worship. Based on a study of the letter William S. Potter addressed to his sister during HRH the Prince of Wales' tour in 1875–1879, one may make a stronger case for Potter by contrasting the writing styles of Letters from India and The Romance of Lust. Ashbee claims that Potter edited the submissions of a number of enthusiasts.
