Publisher Description
The Roych is the first in a series of books that I am making about green lanes in the Peak District of the UK. My aim is to highlight the damage that is being done to these precious landscapes by off-road vehicle users and to draw the attention of a wider public to the importance of these places. As I create the series I intend to take an approach to working in each lane that reflects the character and effect of the place. So the photographic styles will be different - I will use plain text and verse to ask questions, reflect mood and wonder about what has happened here over time.
The Roych is a strange place with a special atmosphere that changes as you walk over the moor and down into the heart of the clough - heading towards Mount Famine and Hayfield.
The second book, focuses on Pin Dale - an ancient lead-mining area close to Castleton in Derbyshire that has been badly abused by bikers and drivers. It is also available via Blurb and the Apple iBooks store.
I intend to release at least one more volume featuring another green lane during 2019 and to continue working in these places for the next few years.
I am currently in the later stages of an M.A. in Photography at Manchester School of Art and this work, along with other images made on the borders of Cheshire, Derbyshire and Staffordshire, will be part of my final submission for the course.
