Publisher Description
The Tragedy of Dido Queen of Cartha is a short play by Christopher Marlowe, The story is about classical character Dido, the Queen of Carthage. It is a dramatic story of dido and her crazy love for Aeneas. The story weaves a tale of betrayal as Aeneas spurns her and she commits suicide. This is one of the two plays that failed to have the notoriety of Marlowe’s other works but is good none the less. T.S. Eliott described the play as underrated and although it was mot the source of fame for the playwright it was adapted years later by other producers. The story is deep and set around the fall of troy.
The play was never taken as seriously as Marlowe other works but it did have one his best and most intriguing characters, Dido. It is a great read and should be part of everyone’s classic collections. The storyline is intriguing and the character development strong. The characters are incorporated from Greek legend and they come together nicely. The play is in line with other tragedies and elicits strong thoughts and emotions. It is well written and a fun time for readers. The book should be a part of any Chris Marlowe collection.
