Sula is sexually submissive, which is a problem for the captain of an elite squad of soldiers in the service of Duke Adlam, ruler of the Grand Duchy of Trelos. Not only does the Church of Purity frown on such practices, but the sadistic mage with whom Sula is in love is involved in the lucrative but illegal slave trade, selling willing sex slaves to the upper reaches of Trelos society.
