Publisher Description

Note: This edition of The Holiday Hostess Cook Book has been updated to include Metric equivalents.

The recipes and menus in this book have been contributed chiefly by members of the Zonta Club of Chicago. These executive and professional women come from many fields, such as law, medicine, food research, engineering, advertising, home economics, journalism, photography, education, equipment, finance, library science and many other areas. All share a common interest in food—whether preparing, serving or eating it.

Zontians were asked to submit only their most popular recipes and menus…the ones they feature on holidays and special occasions. A great many are old family favorites which have been handed down through many generations…and are repeated regularly by unanimous request. Other recipes make use of today’s many good modern convenience foods…reflecting the skill and ingenuity of twentieth century American food specialists. So, you’ll find quickie dishes which can be prepared in minutes. And you’ll also find dishes which must be started hours in advance of the time you’ll be serving. All are guaranteed to please family and guests.

The Service Committee, whose job it was to put this cook book together, wishes to express appreciation to Miss Helen Rotty, a Chicago Home Economist, for her careful editing of recipes. Grateful thanks are also extended for the art, contributed by Miss Rotty, Paul Pinson and Ed Sullivan.

It is the sincere wish of Chicago Zontians that you, your family and friends will find increased dining enjoyment on holidays and other special days through the suggestions in this little cook book. We also hope that through the proceeds, thousands of young girls in Chicago will he helped toward a brighter future.
