Publisher Description

Mammographic Calcifications is a two-volume publication of 500 cases of mammographically detected calcifications, presented as high-resolution magnified images.

Volume I consists of 200 cases presented as a diagnostic exercise in assigning a risk category for malignancy, modeled after the American College of Radiology BI-RADS® classification system. Volume I provides users an opportunity to test their skills in classifying calcifications as to their risk for malignancy and then accessing the specific diagnosis and comparing their assigned risk against the risk(s) assigned by six breast-imaging experts.

Volume II consists of all 500 cases, including the 200 test cases, grouped according to eleven specific diagnoses: Artifacts, DCIS-low nuclear grade, DCIS-intermediate nuclear grade, DCIS-high nuclear grade, DCIS-mixed nuclear grade, Dermal, Dystrophic, Fibroadenomas, Fibrocystic change, Foreign bodies, and Secretory. The reviewer has an opportunity to page through numerous high quality calcification images by specific diagnostic category.

Together, Volume I and II provide the radiologists with an exceptional opportunity to assess their own positive predictive, negative predictive and false negative performance against those of six breast-imaging specialists. Both volumes provide a valuable reference resource for the morphological and distribution characteristics of calcifications associated with benign and malignant breast disease. Equally important, is the demonstration of similar features of calcifications found in benign and malignant breast disease.
