Paolo Cherchi. La metamorfosi dell'Adone. Longo: Ravenna, 1996. In this book Paolo Cherchi extends an(other) invitation to read the L'Adone carefully, with critical and theoretical sophistication and with an appreciative eye toward the pioneering work of Giovanni Pozzi, Francesco Guardiani, and other Marino critics of the last decade. Adopting in part the scheme of the Lectura Marini, Cherchi offers close readings of the last four cantos of L'Adone, devoting one chapter each to Cantos 17, 18, and 19 and two chapters to Canto 20. In the appendix Cherchi collects over fifty miscellaneous notes, most of which were previously published, on some of the most obscure passages in the poem, notes which he characterizes humbly as additions to Pozzi's already substantial commentary.
