San Juan is the capital of Puerto Rico, and at about 395,000 its largest city. It has one of the best harbors in the Caribbean.

Old San Juan is the historic part of the city, home to most historic attractions, galleries and museums. Although this eight by ten block district is part of San Juan, it is quite geographically and culturally distinct from the rest of the city.

It occupies the western half of the islet of San Juan, which it shares with Puerta de Tierra.
