Publisher Description

Photographs from a vast country with jut one city, a tiny population, virtually no roads sandwiched between Russia to the north and China to the south ( and coveted by both). Boarded by the huge Gobi desert to the south and the mountains and forests to the north. Where much of the population lives as their ancestors have done; living as nomadic herders of goats, camels and horses. Moving from pasture to pasture as the seasons change from -40C to +40C and ceaselessly erecting and dismantling the felt tents. The people so far as toughness and resilience have perhaps the same qualities as their forebears who created the largest Empire ever seen running from the Pacific ocean, to the Mediterranean and to the very Gates of Vienna. Pictures of their festivals and their life in the "gers." A way of life under threat as the colossal mineral and coal deposits are now being 'opened up' to satisfy the insatiable demands of the Chinese ( and the world generally) and money and urban life will cause the 'old way' to wither.
