Publisher Description
After the failed mission to rescue Richard, Will Bowman has returned to England to claim the baronial position and land that Queen Eleanor gave him as his reward. Turns out that he is now the Baron of Scyldemoor (old English for 'Shieldmoor'), a fictitious region of remotest Northumberland, with a half-ruined castle in the barren moors that (after a long journey northwards through 12th century England, meeting various dangers and new characters along the way) he now has to try and turn into a thriving fortress to protect northern England from enemies of the king - these being bands of Scots marauders led by a ferocious warlord. As Will begins to lock horns with the latter, word of his return to England reaches the Baron of Gilsland, whose domain is only about 50 miles from Scyldemoor. Now Gilsland joins forces with the Scots warlord to attack Will's castle and wipe him out: cue lots of bloody fighting, mayhem and destruction.
