Publisher Description
Human remains are discovered in a remote forest. A group of old friends know exactly who they belong to.
When police uncover human remains in regional Victoria, a decades-old secret begins to unravel. The locals are shocked. The investigators are baffled.
But one group of friends is terrified.
Because they know what happened.
It began in 1999, when sixteen-year-old Aaron ran away from home and dragged his friends into a chain of events that would change their lives forever. For twenty years, they've kept the truth buried.
Now the past is catching up with them.
As the investigation closes in, long-hidden lies, guilt, and betrayals rise to the surface. And the closer the truth gets, the more desperate they become to keep it hidden.
From the master of the unexpected comes a gripping thriller of friendship, secrets, and the devastating consequences of a single decision.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Dual narrative threads run through Christian White’s latest page-turner. The first thread takes us back to 1999, in a quiet Victorian mountain town, where a group of teenage boys stumble into a bad situation after one of them runs away from home. In the second thread, those boys have grown into men, and the remains of a body have been found by police. The interplay between past and present builds the tension as we learn what happened 25 years ago, as well as discovering how those events changed these richly drawn characters. The Ledge is tied up in themes of loyalty, memory and masculinity, but White never forgets to use those beats in service of a psychological thriller containing twists that feel both surprising and inevitable.
