The Vintage

The Greek rising of 1821 against the Turks, seen from a village in the Peloponnese where the fighting begins in the vineyards. Benson wrote it in 1898, after his years with the British School at Athens, and takes the war seriously throughout. This edition is bound with a gallery of 44 plates after Panini, Hubert Robert and Alma-Tadema, among others, and 16 illustrations restored and coloured for this volume.
